World Hepatitis Day & National Awareness Week 2009
Tuesday, 28 April 2009
Last Updated ( Monday, 18 May 2009 )

Am I Number 12? [New updates below!]

The 2009 National Hepatitis Awareness Week coincides with World Hepatitis Day on May 19th. The concept is designed around the statistic that 1 in 12 people worldwide have viral hepatitis B or C and also to encourage people to question themselves (not others) and to get tested.

The objective of this inclusive theme is to combat the stigma often associated with hepatitis B and C by highlighting the extent of hepatitis infection across the world in a memorable way.

How can you get involved?

National Awareness Week Resources

Posters, bookmarks and stickers are available in the lead up to the week and during the National Awareness Campaign. These free resources can be used for distribution or for displays in your organisation or community. Simply use the attached resource form and email or fax back to the Hepatitis Council of Queensland (HCQ) to order what you need.  If you require other general resources for National Awareness Week contact the HCQ or use the order forms below.

Media Release

Not for publication or broadcast prior to 12:01am on 22 April 2009

LARGE SCALE AUSTRALIAN HEPATITIS C STUDY SHOWS

NEED TO TREAT SOONER

An Australian led, international clinical trial, being presented at the European Association for the Study of the Liver Congress in Copenhagen this week has highlighted the benefits of treating hepatitis C sooner, rather than later.

The study involved more than 700 Australians with hepatitis C and 33 Australian hospitals.  It found people living with the most common strain of hepatitis C who receive treatment when there is minimal, or no liver damage, may double their chance of a cure, compared to those treated in the later stages, where liver damage has become more advanced ....

Hello,

On 11 March 2009, in the lead-up to the Queensland elections, we provided a hepatitis B and C questionnaire to both the Australian Labor Party and the Liberal National Party.

The purpose of this questionnaire is to gain an insight into the attitudes and approaches of the respective parties in managing this growing problem in Queensland.

As of 12:45 PM Friday 20 March we have received a response from the Australian Labor Party.

Any responses received subsequently will also be published on our website at http://www.hepqld.asn.au

World Hepatitis Day Creative Competition
Friday, 06 February 2009

The World Hepatitis Alliance is calling on creative people around the globe to take part in the first World Hepatitis Day creative competition.

The competition has two categories, and has been launched to encourage new and imaginative ways to get people talking about hepatitis B and C. Using words, images, our voices and ideas we can all help raise awareness of hepatitis B and C and we need your help!

While 500 million people around the world are living with hepatitis B or C, most people don't even know they are infected or are aware of the potential risk factors. Enter this creative competition (see below for nomination form) and help make a world of difference in raising awareness about two viruses that kill 1.5 million people a year.
